Benefits Of Sea Buckthorn In Skincare

Sea buckthorn has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and skincare, particularly in Asia and Europe. Its fruit is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, which are important for maintaining healthy skin.

Sea buckthorn has numerous benefits making it an ideal ingredient for many skincare formulations.

Anti-inflammatory properties:
Sea buckthorn contains a high concentration of antioxidants, including vitamins C and E, which help to neutralise free radicals and protect the skin from oxidative stress. In addition, sea buckthorn contains anti-inflammatory compounds, which help to reduce inflammation and redness in the skin.

Anti-aging properties:
Sea buckthorn contains a high concentration of vitamin C, which is essential for the production of collagen. Collagen is a protein that gives the skin its structure and elasticity. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, which can lead to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. By promoting collagen production, sea buckthorn helps to reduce the signs of ageing and improve the skin’s overall texture and tone.

Moisturising properties:
Sea buckthorn oil is rich in essential fatty acids, which help to lock in moisture and prevent the loss of hydration. This makes it an ideal ingredient for dry and dehydrated skin, as well as for skin that is exposed to harsh weather conditions.

Healing properties:
Sea buckthorn has been shown to have healing properties, particularly for damaged or irritated skin. It contains a high concentration of vitamin E, which helps to promote skin healing and regeneration.

Brightening properties:
Sea buckthorn contains a high concentration of vitamin C, which has been shown to have brightening properties. By promoting collagen production and reducing the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, sea buckthorn can help to improve the skin’s overall radiance and glow.

Rosehip Oil

Rosehip Oil has the fantastic ability to help repair and regenerate damaged skin. It’s great for burns, acne, eczema and psoriasis. It can also be helpful with skin damage from radiation therapy as well as alleviating some of the  immediate signs of ageing.

The rosehip is the fruit or seed pod of a species of wild rose called Rosa Rubiginosa, also known as Sweet Briar. The oil can be extracted in a number of ways, but the cold press method retains more of the most important essential constituent elements.

Rosehip oil is also known as a “dry” oil, in that it’s light and absorbed into the skin quickly, leaving it feeling dry and smooth. It’s suitable for all skin types but especially mature, sensitive or damaged skin.

Rosehip Oil

What makes Rosehip Oil so special?

Rosehip oil has very high levels of the important essential fatty acids, including Omega 3, Omega 6 which are vitally important to help our skin heal.

Rosehip also contains a special type of Vitamin A called tretinoin which also helps to repair damaged skin. Tretinoin is great for the treatment of scars, to alleviate acne, and to reduce wrinkles and improve the signs of damage to the skin from the sun. It’s also shown promise as a treatment for pregnancy stretch marks. Not only that, but it softens and moisturises skin, helping to smooth wrinkles.

Rosehip oil can be used in many skincare formulations including cleansers, moisturisers and serums. You can find it in our Native range, in both our Native Moisturiser and the Native Milk Cleanser. It can also be found in our Vitamin C Serum.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is a luxurious and versatile natural ingredient that’s been used in skincare and haircare for centuries. It is known for its moisturising, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties, making it a popular choice for natural skincare and haircare products.

Shea butter is a fat that is extracted from the nuts of the Karite tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), also called the shea tree or African butter tree. The shea tree grows up to 60 feet tall, and can take up to 20 years to start producing its plum-like fruit. The nut inside the fruit is then harvested and processed to extract the shea butter.
